Earlier this year we learned that Netflix would be producing a TV show based off of The Witcher series. The show will follow the books rather than the critically acclaimed games but they share similarities such as a rich world, characters like Geralt, and more. While the show is still in its early days and we aren't sure who is going to star in it, we do know one piece of talent attached to write and helm the show.
Variety reports that Netflix alumnus Lauren Schmidt Hissrich will pen the script, executive produce, and take on the role of showrunner for The Witcher show for the streaming service. Hissrich's writing credits are nothing to scoff at as she's written acclaimed shows like Marvel's Daredevil and the political drama, The West Wing.
The show has no release date as of right now but with a script being worked on right now, we may be able to expect it in 2019. It's currently unclear if Netflix is planning to do a direct adaptation of the novels or if they're going to use them as inspiration to create their own original story for The Witcher universe.
The Witcher developer CD Projekt Red finished their Witcher trilogy in 2015 and received critical acclaim for their well-crafted RPG. The studio says there are no plans for a fourth game and are hard at work at a sci-fi cyberpunk game known as Cyberpunk 2077,
