If you thought this year was filled with tons of great games, you aren't alone – apparently Microsoft felt the same way. Xbox product manager Patrick Perkins took to the GameStop Expo saying that this was the "golden era of games" and that while 2015 might have been great thus far, the end of the year and early 2016 would "actually surpass that."
"Before we even launched the Xbox One, we knew that this was the year," said Perkins during the GameStop Expo livestream. "You just look at the development cycles and when everything's going to come together."
While he doesn't outright include the PlayStation 3 or 4 in his statements, its easy to include them once you look at the context.
Perkins thoughts belief on this "golden era" is founded in history. "The third year is when developers starting to understand what the new technology can do," said Perkins before referencing back to 2007, when the Xbox 360 experienced its third holiday season. The cusp between 2007 and 2008 saw releases for games like BioShock, Halo 3, Assassin's Creed, The Witcher, Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, Portal, Mass Effect, Rock Band, and Grand Theft Auto 4.
This year will be the Xbox One's third holiday season, and the lineup for the end of the year is looking pretty good (for both Xbox One and PlayStation 4). The end of 2015 and the beginning of 2016 will see the release of Call of Duty: Black Ops 3, Fallout 4, Star Wars Battlefront, Uncharted 4: A Thief's End, Halo 5: Guardians, Rise of the Tomb Raider, and Forza Motorsport 6.
It's hard to deny his thought on subject with such a heavy lineup.
