Update: Although we've successfully been able to sign in to our Xbox LIVE account on Xbox One, Microsoft still makes note of the issue.
Microsoft is aware that many are experiencing problems with Xbox LIVE today.
Confirmed through the Xbox status site, Microsoft notes that Xbox LIVE core services are "limited" across its Xbox platforms. The website specifically notes that you may experience problems when attempting to sign in to Xbox LIVE on Xbox One, Xbox 360, and Xbox on other devices.
"Are you having a tough time signing in to Xbox Live? Additionally, are you unable to create or manage existing accounts? We are aware of the situation and have our best on it. Thanks for being patient while we work to find a fix. We'll provide an update when we have more information."
Note, this seems to be separate from their other warning issued for social and gaming limitations on Xbox One. Microsoft notes that you may experiencing problems joining other Xbox LIVE members in online games, but this appears to be related to Destiny which is undergoing maintenance today.
"Xbox members, are you having a tough time connecting to online play in Destiny? This is due to a maintenance that our partner is currently performing. Thanks for your patience during this process! We will provide an update as soon as the work is complete."
The scheduled maintenance on Destiny began at 8:00am PDT and will take roughly six hours to complete as Bungie lays the groundwork for future updates (read: The Taken King expansion).
