With 311,000 Xbox One units sold in the U.S. during the month of March, Microsoft has now shipped over five million Xbox One consoles since November.
"We’re also happy to share today that more than 5 million Xbox One consoles have been sold-in to retailers since our launch," said Yusuf Mehdi, Microsoft's Corporate VP of Marketing at Xbox. The strong start has the Xbox One outpacing its predecessor, Xbxo 360, by more than 60 percent "at the same point in time."
It's important to note, however, that units shipped doesn't equate to units sold to consumers.
On the software front, Xbox One is seeing an average of 2.9 games sold per console. That number was likely boosted by the release of Titanfall which was named the number one selling game in March.
Meanwhile, the PS4 was led all U.S. hardware sales for the month. While Sony didn't reveal specific sales numbers for the month, the cmopany did announce that worldwide PS4 sales total more than 7 million units.
