Xbox One outsells PS4 in November

Microsoft must be proud!

The Xbox One has officially outsold the PlayStation 4 according to marketing research firm NPD, since December of last year. If you look back to the Xbox One's reveal two years ago, you'd be surprised at the console even survived!

It's survival might be attributed to the following that the Xbox 360 had (and still has) or the removal of always-on DRM (just a week after last years E3) — for whatever reason the Xbox One is doing great right now and the Xbox Marketing Corporate Vice President even knows it.

In a (long winded) statement on November's sales Microsoft's Mike Nichols let the community know how excited and amazed he is that fans are buying games (what about the enjoyment of the games? Is this a humble-brag):

"We are committed to making Xbox the best place to play, with this year’s best games, the best community of gamers to play with, and terrific value. And we are amazed by the excitement Xbox fans have shown to start off this holiday. November set a new record for sales of Xbox One, and Xbox One was the best-selling console in the US and UK…Response to the holiday lineup of games on Xbox One was incredible, with Xbox One fans buying more games in November in the U.S. than any other gen eight platform and enjoying over 357 million hours of gameplay globally. In fact, more fans logged into Xbox Live across Xbox One and Xbox 360, and enjoyed more entertainment, than any other month in the history of Xbox. We love to see the excitement from our fans and are grateful for their passion, support and contributions to the Xbox community."

That said, it's pretty phenomenal how far the Xbox One has come and it should only get more interesting after the holiday numbers are looked over. An interesting tid bit from the NPD report shows that the cumulative PS4 and Xbox One sales are almost 80 percent higher than the combined total of PS3 and Xbox 360 sales after only 13 months on the market.
