Xbox One petition calls for restoration of original DRM policy

It seems Xbox supporters can't agree on how the Xbox One should handle digital rights management. Following Microsoft's removal of the Xbox One's strict DRM policy — in which users were required to check-in online and could not freely share or borrow games — a gamer has set out to encourage Microsoft to restore the digital licensing features.

David Fontenot has started a petition at Change.org for the reestablishment of the Xbox One's original digital licensing model. At the very least, he would like some sort of compromise between the two policies.

"This was to be the future of entertainment. A new wave of gaming where you could buy games digitally, then trade, share or sell those digital licenses. Essentially, it was Steam for Xbox. But consumers were uninformed, and railed against it, and it was taken away because Sony took advantage of consumers uncertainty," the petition reads.

"We want this back. It can't be all or nothing, there must be a compromise."

As of the time of this writing the petition has been signed by 860 supporters. Where do you stand on the whole issue? Would you like to see Microsoft pull another 180 on the Xbox One and return it to the original state.
