There are several reasons to be excited for this year’s GamesCom in August. Dozens of developers will be showcasing their current and next-gen games, Microsoft and Sony are prepped to give us a closer look at the Xbox One and Playstation 4, and new features for these upcoming machines will likely be introduced. The latter is especially true for Microsoft and Xbox One, as Major Nelson has confirmed that the company will be introducing the world to self-publishing at GamesCom.
Larry Hyrb, Xbox LIVE’s Major Nelson, told his blog followers the following:
"I had a great chat with Marc Whitten about self publishing and Xbox One. I’ve got him scheduled to come on the podcast next week update us on Xbox One, but in the meantime he wanted me to share some great news with you about the upcoming Xbox One Self Publishing program that we’ve been working on for some time.
Marc had this to say:
Our vision is that every person can be a creator. That every Xbox One can be used for development. That every game and experience can take advantage of all of the features of Xbox One and Xbox LIVE. This means self-publishing. This means Kinect, the cloud, achievements. This means great discoverability on Xbox LIVE. We’ll have more details on the program and the timeline at Gamescom in August.
So….now you know one of the reasons I am looking forward to GamesCom."
GamesCom takes place August 21-25 in Germany. The event is open to the public and will be covered in full by GameZone.
