The Insider Program for Xbox One, a program that allows players to test updates before full release, is now available to all. Microsoft has announced that it's not only available to select Xbox Live members, but to anyone who signs up for it.
Microsoft explained in a blog post that it's "simplifying entry" for the program, allowing those specifically interested a chance to test updates. They've also added the ability to move between the program's four tiers with enough Insider XP. These tiers existed before, but some have been renamed, check them out below.
New Name | Description | Old Name |
Alpha | Invite-only access ring reserved for Xbox Insiders that provide the most customer feedback, report problems with clear repro steps, and are especially active on Xbox One consoles. From time to time, our best Beta and Delta users will get invited to join the Alpha group. | Alpha |
Beta | Now open to Xbox Insiders with a tenure (time in Program) of three or more months and an Xbox Insider XP of Level 4 or higher. | Beta |
Delta | The new Delta group is open to any Xbox Insider with a tenure of one or more months that has reached Xbox Insider Level 2 or higher. Members of the Delta group may also receive builds earlier in the release schedule to test service scalability and feature acceptance. This means that not all users in the Delta group will have access to the same features at the same time. | Ring 3 |
Omega | Anyone can join the Omega group, which will be used to test minor changes made to the previously released monthly updates. Additionally, the Omega group will usually get early access to an upcoming monthly update before the general availability release date. | Ring 4 |
Moving to higher tiers can be attained by providing helpful feedback and being active within the community. Essentially, participating in beta testing tthe way its intended grants more access. Of course, being in the program, specifically higher tiers, will result in more frequent updates. Alpha ring can hit anywhere between 15-20 updates a month, while Omega sits around 1-8.
Microsoft is "working closely with multiple first and third-party game studios" to sweeten the pot for playtesting unreleased games in tte program. Examples include Paladins and the highly anticipated Sea of Thieves. To join the Insider Program, simply download the Xbox Insider Hub from the Xbox Store.
