The XCOM series, once beloved, has undoubtedly had its rough patches in its "glorious" return to this generation's consoles. The reboot was first announced at E3 2010 where it was blasted for its poor showing. Nonetheless, XCOM came back stronger than ever at E3 2011, earning several awards. WIth the game looking promising, many were excited to hear that it was scheduled for a March 6, 2012 release. Today, though, many will be saddened to hear that the reboot will not hit that release date, and will most likely not be seen in 2012.
The delay, burried deep within publisher Take-Two’s quarterly financial report, is rumored to be due to the layoffs at the studio, which hit last month. The statement simply stated, "2K Games now expects to release XCOM during fiscal 2013.” Take-Two’s fiscal 2013 begins after March 31, there is a possibility that the game could come out as early as next April, though many analysts see it coming out as late as March 31, 2013.
Delays are always bleak news, but it can only make a game better, and in this game, XCOM needs all the time to assure itself a quality return.
