YES! Poe Dameron is getting his own Star Wars comic series

Poe Dameron is referred to as the best damn pilot in the galaxy, and in Star Wars: The Force Awakens he sort of showed us why through a series of badass moments on screen. Now, everyone's favorite character — or is that TR-8R? — is getting his own comic book series.

Debuting this spring, the new comic book series, titled "Star Wars: Poe Dameron," focuses on the lead-up to the opening of The Force Awakens, which saw Poe seeking out the mysterious Lor San Tekka on the desert planet of Jakku for the key to finding the missing Luke Skywalker. According to USA Today, the series will explore Poe's status as top X-wing pilot and one of General Leia Organa's most-trusted Resistance fighters. Poe is said to be the leader of a squadron "with an important mission," and the comic will introduce a new villain from The New Order who will serve as Poe's chief nemesis.

Poe is one of The Force Awakens' breakout characters, but not much is known about his past or why he's considered the best pilot in the galaxy (though we got glimpses during The Force Awakens). Hopefully the new series will change that.

“Sometimes it can feel like the Star Wars universe is so well trodden and so many stories have already been told,” explained the comic's writer, Charles Soule. “But the way the Episode VII galaxy is set up, there are opportunities for new archetypes almost, and the bad guy we’re working with is going to feel fresh and cool.”

Despite little screen time, Poe has become a fan-favorite characters, mostly for his good-natured personality brought to light by actor Oscar Isaac (and partly because he's a f*cking badass pilot). Soule and artist Phil Noto promise to flesh out more of Poe's personality, explore both new and old locations, and showcase legacy and new characters. This includes Poe's adorable droid BB-8, one of the other newcomers in The Force Awakens, who will be one of comic's co-stars.

The good news for you Oscar Isaac fans, is that Noto is studying Isaac's filmography. “Seeing so much of him on screen, it’s easier in a way to act that part out in my head while I’m drawing: How would Oscar Isaac act in this situation as Poe Dameron?” Noto said.

It's unclear if the comic will address Poe's sexuality, which has come into question of late. Following the actor's comments on the Ellen Show, some on the internet have theorized that Poe Dameron could be gay. Others just write off Poe's interaction with John Boyega's Finn in the film as nothing more than a bromance, just dudes being dudes.

In any case, I think just about everyone is excited for the potential of the Star Wars: Poe Dameron series, which will debut in April of this year.
