Snake (yes, that one) has always been played with a keyboard of some kind. I have fond memories of idling my time away as a toddler playing the game on my parents’ ancient, indestructible Nokia. Yet only now, in the technological Christmas land that is 2016, can we play Snake on a keyboard. Without a screen.
YouTuber Mythic Maniac recently uploaded a video of his homebrew version of Snake being played entirely on a Corsair K70 RGB keyboard. The QWERTY and number keys function as the main playing field, with the actual Snake being controlled by the arrow keys. However, it seems possible the program could be modified to make use of the entire keyboard.
Corsair’s fluorescent K70 is one of few keyboards that can support this type of program because each of its keys are lit and can be customized individually. This allowed Mythic Maniac to clearly distinguish between the Snake, its targets and the borders of the playing field, not to mention accurately render the movement and growth of the Snake.
If you think your keyboard is up to the task, you can download Mythic’s game script for yourself.
