A new law on the books will allow Delorean Motor Company to begin producing new vehicles as soon as early 2017.
The laws allows companies that produce "replica" type vehicles — those made at least 25 years ago — to bypass certain safety requirements. As a result, DMC believes they could produce up to 325 cars each year. Of course, this is a low number, but it will also feature all-new 2017 enhancements. The company is said to be looking at engines with anywhere from 300-400 ponies under the hood as well as 17 or 18 inch wheels. The move to a larger wheel was necessary in order to get high performance tires for the larger engine.
Once all the final red tape is cut and the i's are dotted, production could begin by early 2017. Price is expected to run between $80-100k and stainless steel bodies are expected to remain in some capacity.
No word on whether Mr. Fusion will be an optional upgrade.
