Zelda 3DS in the Works, Majora’s Mask Still Likely

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword is complete. Therefore, it's only fitting that Nintendo looks ahead at what it can do with the series moving forward. In an interview with Portuguese game news site MyGames (translated by Nintendo Everything), Skyward Sword producer Eiji Aonuma talked about the current plan for the Zelda series.

It seems Nintendo currently has something in store for the 3DS. "We are already preparing a new game, a game in the series for the Nintendo 3DS, but don't think that it is a direct sequel to the Zelda titles released on DS," stated Aonuma. "We are talking about a new game, but it takes much of what has been done on previous handhelds."

Regarding a 3DS remake of Majora's Mask, the producer explained, "It's something I'm asked about often and I assure you that it is something I've spoken to Miyamoto about. But recently, we released The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D as a remake. We are considering the idea, but it didn't seem right to launch a remake one after another, so the next Zelda game on 3DS will be original."

It definitely looks like there's a lot of Zelda being talked about right now over at Nintendo HQ. Right now, however, all the emphasis is on Skyward Sword, so I doubt we'll get much news on the series in the near future. Who knows, though? Maybe a Zelda 3DS will be announced at E3 next year. We'll have to wait and see.
