2014 Holiday Gift Guide – Must have PS Vita gifts

Happy holidays PS Vita owners and gift buyers! The Vita doesn't always get a lot of attention, but there's been a few really awesome games released for it this year that you might have missed if you weren't paying attention. While the Vita doesn't have the vast library of its 3DS competitor, these are the best purchases for Sony's handheld. If you have any gift buying questions, don't hesitate to comment, email me atLliebl@GameZone.com or tweet us at @Lance_GZ or @GameZoneOnline.

Console Bundles:

When it comes to purchasing a Vita, there's only one real option that you should consider when buying retail. For $199.99 you can get the Borderlands 2 PlayStation Vita Bundle that comes with a game voucher for Borderlands 2 and an 8GB memory card. It also features the new PlayStation Vita, which is lighter, has increased battery life, and an LCD screen.

Games:

Hohokum

hohokum

It’s definitely abstract, but Hohokum is a real game with puzzles and goals. It’s a delight from beginning to end, even as trippy and weird as it is. It’s also cross-buy and cross-save, so you’ll get it for all of your PlayStation consoles. [Review]

Child of Light

Child of Light is a mesmerizing fairytale where you’ll admire the gorgeous visuals and the thought-provoking story. The combat is organized chaos with the active battle system that is presented simplistically, but puts a twist on the turn-based combat you might be used to. [Review]

Murasaki Baby

murasaki baby

Murasaki Baby is an odd title for the PS Vita where you use almost entirely touch controls as you guide Baby and protect her through a nightmarish world. It's not going to be for everyone, but it's very atmospheric and emotional, and the art style is amazing. [Review]

Soul Sacrifice Delta

What we consider to be possibly the best game on the Vita, Soul Sacrifice Delta features a compelling and heart-breaking story with various twists and turns, bite-sized missiosn that work perfectly on the handheld, deep character customization with tons of unlockable spells, and a multiplayer mode to take down horrific bosses with your friends. [Review]

Freedom Wars

freedom wars

A stylish and fast-paced Monster Hunting clone that has a ton of content wrapped up in gorgeous Anime visuals. Freedom Wars is inspired by Monster Hunter, but layers on its own style and mechonics on top of it. It plays great and looks phenomenal. [Review]

Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc & Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair

Both games are loved by most PS Vita owners. Danganronpa has quirky humor, excellent writing and really interesting characters. The plot is quite serious and dark, and that makes it quite a unique adventure. The sequel continues that vibe, making these some of the best visual novels (with elements from Phoenix Wright) that you could play.

PlayStation TV

PlayStation TV is a small device that connects to your television and lets you play Vita games on it. There are some downsides though. While you can play some awesome Vita games from your couch on your big screen, there is a list of compatible games that excludes a ton of Vita games (and it really hasn't been updated). Also, not all games support touch functionality. PlayStation TV allows you to also stream your PS4 to another tv, but that's also had a mixed reception. Still, it's a niche device that a pure PlayStation fan will probably enjoy. [Review]
