With the growth of the videogame market into a billon dollar industry, sports games have become one of – if not the – most profitable genre out there. Football, currently the most profitable, and popular, sport in the United States is therefore a cornerstone in the library of any sports-game developer, and Visual Concepts is certainly no exception.
The 2005 season will be the first time that EA’s sports franchises will be playable on Live. In conjunction with their advertising might and name-brand value, Sega is likely aware of how difficult it will be to remain a major player in the sports realm.
