3DS Accessories Designer Tweets November Release

Nintendo 3DS Release November 20 Rumor twitter

Over the past months, more speculation has centered on Nintendo’s 3DS – the DS successor sporting glasses-less 3D – than any other device or game to come out of June’s E3. Much of it’s centered around the handheld’s release date and pricing, naturally, and today, one of those questions may have been answered.

Rumors have pegged the 3DS release date anywhere from before March 2011, which seems likely, to “absolutely” before Christmas. Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime told Jimmy Fallon that the 3DS would come out in 2011, though if memory serves, he later redacted that statement and replaced it with something decidedly more vague.

Twitter that page doesn't existThe official announcement of both the price and release date is coming on September 29, but now a single innocent tweet may have ruined all of Nintendo’s manufactured anticipation.

“On November 20th, the 11 goods I designed for use with the 3DS will go on sale simultaneously,” (supposedly) wrote a (supposed) employee of popular DS accessories company Keys Factory. “Those of you buying the 3DS, please buy them while you’re at it! This will be officially announced on the homepage eventually, lol. Best regards.”

The rumor of the translated Tweet reaches us via CVG via Nintendo Everything via a NeoGAF thread via the unofficial 3DS Blog. The original Twitter account has since been taken down (after all, if this is real, the poor guy is probably homeless by now). The picture above could have easily been Photoshopped. In other words, it’s not the most credible rumor.

On the other hand, multiple sources have pointed out that a November 20 release makes sense given the history of DS releases. Nintendo Everything points out that the original DS’s November/December 2004 release wasn’t announced until September of that year, and AfterDawn reminds us that the DSi XL hit shelves on November 21, 2009, also a Saturday.

Nintendo may soon become as predictable as Apple, whose iPhone gets an upgrade every June. Whatever the truth may be, at least we won’t be waiting long to find out. On September 29, all our 3DS questions will be answered, but until then, let’s keep the speculation going, eh?
