1. Mass Effect series
The Mass Effect series is one of the best trilogies in recent time, it had a gripping story, character development, and superb gameplay. Despite the ending of three which kind of screwed with its fans, the game was exceptional and deserves to be remastered for the next gen consoles.
The original Mass Effect was a great game for many reasons, but no one can deny that it had plenty of bugs. The consistent frame rate dip and early gameplay mechanics made the first game in the series kind of a slump to playthrough, despite it being a gem in its own way.
If BioWare were to remaster this series before the next game in the franchise comes out — Mass Effect: Andromeda, it would be both beneficial for the players who have never played one before and great fan service for everyone who already has.
Andromeda has already been stated that it won't be connected to the original trilogy, but it still will be helpful for new players to the franchise to understand the lore in this massive universe, while experiencing one of the best three part stories ever told.
About a year ago, EA's Executive Vice President at EA Studios Patrick Söderlund noted that before the team at BioWare started on the next game in the series, there was a serious question if they should remaster the games before or jump into a new IP.
"I won't lie and say we haven't looked at it," Söderlund revealed. "But for us, it's about weighing where we spend our resources. Is it better for them to be working on a completely new IP, which you know BioWare is, or should they be remastering a Mass Effect?"
Söderlund doesn't outright deny that their not working on a remaster. Which leads us to hope that perhaps one of EA's other studios has been tasked with bringing the port over while the main development team focuses on Andromeda. It would make sense for everyone to have this series — the fans, newcomers, and EA.
2. Red Dead Redemption
Red Dead Redemption has to be one of the biggest surprises in gaming, no one expected Red Dead to turn out to be the masterpiece it was… But it did, and we now have fans dying to get their hands on it again.
The spectacular title was developed by no other than RockStar, the people who brought us the Grand Theft Auto series, but instead of following the traditional GTA style game, they made a gunslinging cowboy game which turned out to be an overwhelming hit.
There have been plenty of rumors that a Red Dead Redemption sequel is in the works, but instead of being a proper sequel it has been said to be a prequel. Not too many details were given about the new plot, but there is plenty of hard evidence that states RockStar is working on a follow-up title.
It's really a no-brainer with this one; if they managed to release a Red dead Redemption HD remaster before its sequel, fans are going to go absolutely nuts. No doubt everyone and their mother will go out and pick up a copy; with E3 rapidly approaching, we must all keep our fingers crossed as that will be the most likely place to announce it.
3. BioShock Collection
4. Assassin's Creed series
In the past two years, the releases of both Unity and Syndicate managed to disappoint a significant amount players resulting in Ubisoft to take a year off the annual release of the beloved Assassin's Creed franchise.
Syndicate managed to clean up some of the mess, but it didn't truly gain the entire trust back from the players. However, this wasn't always the case. Assassin's Creed was once a franchise with innovative gameplay, a deep storyline, and some of the coolest set pieces in video games. But with the annual releases came sloppiness and that simply wouldn't be able to fly anymore.
While the higher ups at Ubisoft figure out what the hell is going on with the franchise, it would be a great time to release some sort of Assassin's Creed remaster bundle. Actually, about five months ago a domain was registered by Ubisoft for an Assassin's Creed Collection.
It obviously wouldn't be all the games in the franchise as there about 14 titles to date, but most likely be the core AC games which made the franchise what it was — the original Assassin's Creed, Assassin's Creed 2, Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, Assassins's Creed: Revolution, and Assassin's Creed 3.
It would be the craziest of ideas Ubisoft had, in fact, it might be one of the smartest especially since there will be no new Assassin's Creed game this year while the new Assasin's Creed movie launches. The hype around the movie before or after the release of this collection could potentially sell copies.
5. Call of Duty Franchise
To be honest, the Call of Duty franchise is one of the classics in gaming. Regardless of how you feel about it, they were the pioneers of the competitive multiplayer genre, bringing loads of new mechanics and ideas to the table.
They might have gone a little too far with the flying spaceships and thrusters, but there is no denying that fans want to return to the old "boots on the ground" game they used to know and love.
The recent announcement of Infinity Ward's latest iteration in the franchise — Infinite Warfare, will be bundled with the classic Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. There is no surprise that fans are chomping at the bit to get this game, however, the only way they could is by purchasing Infinite Warfare.
Some fans are upset with this news, but we have to wonder if Activision picked up on the excitement from the fans. I only "wonder" because they haven't really picked up on the fact that players DO NOT WANT SPACE COD, but perhaps they finally figured this one out.
Imagine going back to the timeless classics like MW2, World at War, or the original Black Ops (Which recently received a 13,000% increase spike since the Xbox One Backwards Compatibility). These games wouldn't be too much of a surprise if they all came bundled together one year so Activision could halt on a new Call of Duty to figure out a new plan of attack.
Recently, we received the official word from Warner Bros. that some of the most critically acclaimed games from the last generation — Arkham Asylum & Arkham City, will be making their way over to the next gen consoles.
It's a little odd that Warner Bros. decided to release this collection after the latest entry in the series, Arkham Knight, but regardless we're still happy to see it makes it's way over. But it has to make us think, if the Arkham series could make its way over, what else could?
Yes, we had a bunch of remasters since the beginning of this generation cycle, but some were needed while others were always a puzzle to figure out how it made its way over.
Undoubtedly fans of the Arkham franchise will jump back into this new collection, but with the decent amount of rumors regarding future remaster still remain high. So you got to ask, what are the top 5 games that could and potentially deserve a remaster?
Let's find out!
