Scalebound – Xbox One, PC – TBA
Platinum Games first revealed Scalebound at last year's E3 over a year ago with a simple little teaser showing a man both controlling and becoming a dragon. From that trailer, they and Microsoft had many captivated on what exactly Scalebound is. Since then, we've found out that it's a adventure/rpg mix but nothing else. Since it skipped E3 for Gamescom coming up next month, we are sure to get more information as Microsoft has confirmed its presence.
Hellblade – PS4, PC – 2016
Ninja Theory's new take on AAA technology has intrigued since its reveal. Studio Head Dominic Matthews told us when we last spoke that if the game used traditional development methods it would take over four years for it to see fruition. Senua, the game's female protagonist, is a Celtic warrior dealing with the issues of mental illness and her story is an all new tale developed by Ninja Theory. The E3 trailer from last month showed us our first real glimpse of gameplay as well. And remember, Hellblade is only PS4 for now with PC as Mr. Matthews hasn't ruled out bringing it to other platforms as of yet. If it was due out this year instead of 2016, Hellblade would easily make our top 5 list.
Of course, these are just a few of the many games coming this year. What are yours? Let us know
Rico Rodriguez is back fully equipped with a gliding squirrel suit and all the explosions that would make Michael Bay blush. The action-packed Just Cause 3 looks like a straight-up good time.
Star Wars Battlefront – Xbox One, PS4, PC – Nov 17
Although the absence of a campaign might be a bit of a turn off for some, Star Wars Battlefront is easily one of the best looking shooters coming out this year. Early impressions label the game as a slightly more casual Battlefield with a Star Wars skin. And we're cool with that. With more than a dozen maps at launch (Hoth, Tatooine, Endor, and Sullust confirmed) and the ability to play as iconic characters from the original trilogy, how can Star Wars fans not be excited? And if you aren't a fan of the franchise, I'm sure 20v20 combat with air and ground vehicles is pretty enticing.
After years of waiting, fans are finally getting a Fallout 4. The wait alone is enough for the game to make this list, but we're actually pretty excited about what we actually do know about Fallout 4. Set in The Commonwealth — the fictional universe's version of Massachusetts — Fallout 4's story begins on the day the nuclear bombs dropped: October 23, 2077. Awakening from Vault 111 in which the player's character took shelter in some-200 years later, you are the vault's lone survivor. Though Fallout 4's gameplay is said to be similar to that of Fallout 3, several new features and improvements, including base-building, a dynamic dialogue system, and in-depth crafting system has us very excited for Fallout 4.
(Editor's Note: Fallout 4 was added by vote from the GameZone staff and not by Mike Boccher the author of this article.)
First announced at this year's E3, Ubisoft's new city-builder sets you on a course for the moon. Establishing your city on Earth allows you to earn your ticket to the moon with unlimited building, resources. Cities in ANNO 2205 are up to five times bigger than previous ANNO titles and really expands the options for creativity and ingenuity.
Warner Bros and TT Games first foray into the toys-to-life genre, Lego Dimensions already looks outstanding and we still have three months until launch. What sets this game apart from others is the ability for characters from different franchises to be used in interchangeable worlds, not limited to their respective story worlds. The essence of Lego building, imagination, carries over from the toy blocks into Lego Dimensions with multiple packs and worlds. Marty Mcfly and Batman fighting the Wicked Witch of the West — I mean come on, how awesome is that?
Can you believe we're more than halfway through 2015? Unlike past years, the gaming industry has seen an exuberant number of games already released this year. Some heralded, some not so much. And ya know what? There's lots more on the way.
With 2015 halfway in the books, we figured why not take a look at some of the upcoming titles for the remainder of the year that we are excited for. We even included two bonus games we're looking forward to next year.
Avalanche Studios has taken a huge step toward re-energizing the Mad Max franchise. With the release of the new film this year and its success, we've seen a huge open world, crafting system, vehicle building and combat system reminiscent of the original Master Blaster himself. With such a huge undertaking amidst skeptical gamers, all of what we have seen so far shows amazing potential when it releases September 1st.
