NPD: Xbox 360 Takes Number One Spot for September in the US, Sony and Nintendo Trumpet Their Success for September, and Nintendo Responds to 2nd Place NPD Figures

Everyone’s putting their respective spin on the NPD sales figures for September. Despite the fact that the 360 clearly beat the heap as far as hardware units sold, both Sony and Nintendo each are claiming that they got the better out of the month. Check the numbers themselves first, then get yourself geared up for the spin.

Street Fighter IV Over a Year Away

Capcom revealed this week that they’re currently working on the sequel to the sequel to possibly the greatest arcade game of all time. Unhappily, we don’t really know that much about the game itself, as the trailer merely featured a movie of series leads Ryu and Ken sparring. So, from the trailer, we can safely assume that those two characters will be in the game, but not much else.

EA Wants One Console to Rule Them All

Electronic Arts literally makes games for basically EVERY gaming platform there is, so it kind of makes sense that the people there would be in favor of one console only. After all, if you’re publishing and developing a separate Madden for PS2, Xbox, Wii, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, DS, PSP, cell phones, GBA, PC, and Mac all at once, I can understand how you might long for simplicity. Still, there’s a term for having just one kind of platform without any competition that you might recognize – a monopoly. Depending on where you are, it might also be referred to as COMMUNISM.

But how many photos of your online victories, or — let’s be honest — losses would you have wanted, anyway?

If you’re interested in such a process, just check out how Sony Computer Entertainment America’s president Jack Tretton tries to justify leaving PS2 backwards compatibility out of the new 40 GB PlayStation 3s. Maybe you should pick up one of those 60-gig versions while you can.

Capcom Chooses Okami Developer

With its paintbrush mechanic, Okami on the Wii always seemed like a no brainer, but Capcom accidentally demolished Okami developer Clover Studios on purpose last year, so somebody else had to do the honors this time around. American development house Ready at Dawn, known for work on PSP titles like God of War: Chains of Olympus and Daxter, draws the long straw.
