Project CARS is somewhat of a success story. Slightly Mad Studios made the game themselves with the help of fan funding, and even development help from the community. Eventually it got published by Bandai Namco, and racing fans had yet another game to get excited about outside of Forza and Gran Turismo.
Unlike the other titles, Project CARS is all about giving the players freedom of choice right from the beginning. All the cars and tracks are unlocked, meaning you don't really have to put in a lot of hours into the game to experience most of what it has to offer. But even then, you have the career mode which has you going through a slew of races. While I personally wished there was a bigger sense of progression in the career mode, the gameplay itself was so fantastic, that it ended up being a rather trivial concern.
It's still a Sim Racer, which means that you'll have to play smart, rather than aggressive, as that type of gameplay can get you disqualified quick. Something I really love about the Forza games is here as well, and that's the complete customization of difficulty and AI. There are so many options to tinker with, meaning that even novice racers can get a whole lot out of the game, without feeling like they're getting steamrolled by the competition.
What's even cooler is that Project CARS is pretty much future proof as well, with VR support for both Oculus and PlayStation VR, which means when those eventually release next year, Project CARS will still be relevant.
