Ben Judd, the Producer for the new Bionic Commando and its prequel/remake of the original title, Bionic Commando Rearmed, has come upon a little dilemma regarding the latter title: The price.
It seems Ben and the boys got just a little carried away with their remake, as you might have seen, and a lot more time, money, and effort have gone into polishing up this all but forgotten jewel.
Judd? He wants to get this baby into the hands of as many gamers as possible, to share in the bliss, and for that, $10 seems ideal to him. The suits? They think that the game is so good, has so much, and that the public reaction merits a $15 tag. Especially as a common “meta-emulation” of an old game can run around 10 dollars with little to no bells or whistles, while Rearmed is bringing its own band and booze.
“There is also my biggest concern,” Judd says. “I want 2D gaming to live on. Gaming was forged on the innovative gameplay of 2D games, and maybe I’m a bit of a fossil but I want it to continue to evolve over time. Since BCR wasn’t cheap, turning a profit won’t be easy but without doing so it will be hard to justify this type of a production for future games.”
And that’s where it comes down to the consumers: How much are you willing to pay for Bionic Commando Rearmed? $10 gets it into more hands, while $15 might better help keep the 2D dream alive.
The Bionic Commando crew invite you to voice your opinion in the poll over on their website. As it is, $10 has a significant margin over $15, but the poll has just started, so it could still change over time.
