BioWare Rumored to be Working on Handheld Game

Even though BioWare may be busy with Dragon Age 2 and Mass Effect 3 it seems the company has a few other tricks up their sleeves, and they may be of the handheld variety. According to the LinkedIn profile of QA tester Mitchell Fujino the company is well into the process of crafting a new handheld game. Though Fujino has altered his profile since the news first broke to mask the suspected handheld game, it’s worth noting that he also tested Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood, BioWare’s last portable title.

Obviously the major question, assuming the rumor is true, is on what platform will the unannounced game be released? The smart money is on the 3DS, as Nintendo is really reaching out to third parties with the device, and major publishers like Capcom and EA have already pledged their wholehearted support. If BioWare also comes aboard then Nintendo’s new handheld begins looking even more formidable. We doubt the game would be a PSP exclusive, but Sony is surely hoping that this title gets a multiplatform release so they can share in the wealth. Their beleaguered handheld could use some love, and a title from a big publisher like BioWare would be a nice boost.

Then again, we could be missing the mark entirely and perhaps BioWare’s plans are centered around the iPhone. One Mass Effect game was already released for Apple’s device, and while it didn’t exactly blow folks away perhaps BioWare is ready to try again with a Dragon Age or Star Wars title. Ultimately we’re just guessing since the company isn’t talking, but it can be fun to speculate.

We’ll continue monitoring the story and keep you updated with new details as they arise. If we’re lucky then we’ll see a reveal at TGS this week, but I wouldn’t hold your breath.
