Destiny's end game is a laborious grind. Not only is the drop rate per rare items pretty low, both Blue and Purple Engrams have a chance to be a lower tiered item, meaning the next Legendary Engram you decrypt could be a Rare. That sucks.
However, there seem to be some tricks to farming Engrams, if you're patient enough to repeat the same tactic over and over.
Strike Mission: Nexus (Venus)
This video from ThePwnStarforHire, shows us a pretty great method that might be mind-numbingly repetitive, but it certainly has results. All you need to do is get together two like-minded friends who won't mind repeating the same task over and over, and head on out to the Strike mission on Venus, Nexus.
The area in the video below is a little ways into the Strike, and all it requires you to do is dispose of the group of Goblins right before the entrance to the cave, however, instead of continuing, jump off the cliff and repeat this section again. The checkpoint is literally right before the group of Goblins.
Patrol: Venus
Another good tactic comes from YouTuber Completionist. This method requires you to start an Explore missions on Venus, and head into the Ishtar Commons that are right past the Ishtar Academy.
When you're there, just head directly to the back wall, which puts you right in between two spanning factions, the Fallen and the Vex. By the time you completely wipe one out, the other will respawn. The Fallen consists of mostly Dregs while the Vex will have two Hobgoblins and a bunch of Goblins spawn. Try to take them out with Precision Shots, as according to the video, has a higher chance to give you a rare item.
