Star Trek Legacy Set For 360

Bethesda Softworks has announced today that they have officially secured the rights of the popular television series, Star Trek CBS Consumer Products. The agreement allows the software company to develop and publish several games centered around the long-standing series for both current and next-generation gaming consoles, the PC market, and finally current generation handheld systems.

“Being able to work with the entire universe of this beloved series is an incredibly exciting opportunity for us,” said Todd Vaughn, vice president of development for Bethesda Softworks. “We have some great ideas about where we want to go with this license and having the exclusive right to develop and publish Star Trek games across all platforms ensures that every Star Trek game will be a quality game worthy of its name.”

The 360 title currently in development is known as Star Trek Legacy. As of now, the title is exclusive to the PC and Xbox 360, but Bethesda possess the rights to develop and publish the game for current consoles as well as the other next generational systems set to debut in the future.

Legacy puts fans of the historically popular series in the role of an Admiral for a task force of warships. Users employ strategic and tactical skills and control their fleet through numerous large and small scale encounters throughout the depths of space . The forthcoming game is set to include authentically replicated spacecraft from the Star Trek universe, and full damage modeling as players engage against the enemy in real-time combat.

Star Trek Legacy is currently being developed by Mad Doc Software and the game’s story-line is said to span throughout the Star Trek Universe, covering the Original Series, Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, Voyager, and Enterprise eras. The single player experience will feature fully fleshed out three dimensional battlefields and realistic space environments showing wormholes, planets, nebulas, and stars in high definition graphics.

Additionally, the game is set to support Xbox Live with a full multiplayer experience under a variety of different settings. Gamers can elect to participate in small scale engagements or comprehensive battles including countless spaceships from the popular series. Live users will also receive the benefit of a full stat tracking service. Star Trek Legacy is currently slated to release for both the 360 and PC platforms in September of 2006. We’ll keep you updated on any future developments.
