Meth Lab Discovered After Xbox Theft

Who ever said playing video games isn’t a public service? It certainly is when your gaming habit gets a thieving drunk driver arrested for baking meth in your spare bedroom.

When a 24-year-old St. Johns County, Florida man called the police to report that his roommate had stolen his Xbox and had someone pawn it, officers arrived to see what they could do. They probably weren’t expecting to find a meth lab, but, well, life is like a box of chocolate. Addictive, meth-filled chocolate.

When the deputies entered the house to investigate the Xbox theft (which is bad enough by itself), they “smelled a strong chemical odor” and became suspicious. When one of the officers opened the door to the thief’s bedroom, he was struck by “a large white chemical cloud” as it escaped the room.

Now 36-year-old Wendy Marie Gibson is facing charges of “possession of methamphetamine, possession and use of narcotic equipment, possession of listed chemical for manufacture of a controlled substance,” and, of course, grand theft (of an Xbox and two controllers).

The man reportedly got his Xbox back, and Gibson is currently being held in county with a hefty bail. One has to wonder, though, what the man’s true intentions were when he called the fuzz.

I mean, he pretty much had to know that Gibson was making tons of meth in the back bedroom of his house, especially if the smell was strong enough for officers to notice it. Maybe she told him it was incense?

Gibson was arrested last month under similar charges in connection with another meth lab that was apparently located right across the street. Two meth labs on the same street in a single month? Something tells me that guy who called the cops – the one whose house the second lab was located in – isn’t so innocent (wow, why aren’t I a detective?).

On top of that, Gibson’s also been previously charged with a DUI, writing bad checks and, shockingly, drug possession. Clearly, a stand up human being. Let’s hope they both get what they deserve.
