ModNation Racers is one of the most anticipated Sony title. This kart-racer allows both PSP and PS3 players to create, play, and share their content with each other. Announced on the Official PlayStation Blog, the game will be released May 25th.
Players can make their own avatars, custom tracks, and karts to be shared via PSN. This racer is sure to be a community builder, just like LittleBigPlanet was last year, but does it have the potential to take on Mario Kart and other racers?
Mario Kart has always been the king of the kart-racing genre. It has always been a triple-A title for Nintendo, as well as developed a large following. Sony aims to do the same with ModNation Racers, by including many recognizable characters. Though they are pre-order bonuses, characters such as Kratos, Rachet & Clank, and Nathan Drake will all be playable if you order from select retailers (GameStop, Amazon, and Best Buy). Sony’s new approach to further expanding their brand, will surely bring upon more downloadable characters in the future. Killzone 2, LittleBigPlanet, and even Uncharted 2 have given the company a face, just like Mario does for Nintendo.
The option to make custom tracks is one of the features that makes the game stand out from the rest. The track creator is simple and accessible, while still allowing the player to make almost anything. If successful, in a few weeks after release there will be thousands of user-created tracks, racers, and karts all available to download.
ModNation Racers is definitely one of Sony’s exclusives to look out for. With huge pre-order bonuses and more custom content than you can handle, ModNation might be able to revive the PSN.
So tell us, where will you pre-order? And if not, Why?
