My Game This Weekend: Fable 2 – What About You?

I’ll be spending this weekend in Albion. I started playing Fable 2 this week and haven’t had as much time as I’d like to completely immerse myself in the game, but the few hours I’ve spent with it have convinced me that it’s very entrancing.

Fable 2 is definitely my kind of game. I love the theme, art-direction, open-ended gameplay and the moral dilemmas you encounter. It’s just too easy for me to get sucked into the world that Molyneux and co have created. I expect I’ll probably lose many hours to the game over the next two days. The other night, I somehow spent about two hours playing around in the first town in the game, not accomplishing one storyline-related task. But that’s okay. That’s what Fable 2 is all about. And, I’m happy to write that, thus far, it appears that the game is in every way an improvement over its predecessor — and that’s not a knock on the original Fable whatsoever (I very much enjoyed Fable). Fable 2 is simply bigger and more sophisticated.

So far, one of the few complaints I have is that the level design still feels quite linear. For the most part, you’re just walking on path after path. It’s not as blatant as it was in the first Fable, but it’s still noticeable. Perhaps the linearity isn’t as obvious as the game progresses. That’d be nice. But either way, I can’t wait to plug myself back into Albion.

What about you? What will you be playing this weekend?
