Well folks, today we have been hearing word from Kotaku that Enterbrain, the publisher of Famitsu, is reporting a benchmark for Wii sales in Japan. It has sold more than the total of 8 million units as of April 19, 2009.
Unlike us here in the U.S., Japan didn’t receive the included Wii Sports game. Regardless, that is a pretty significant number after its release on December 2, 2006 in Japan. To add to their news, they gave a list of the top five selling games in Japan.
1. Wii Sports
Launch: 12/2/06
Life-to-date: 3,481,469 copies2. Wii Fit
Launch: 12/1/07
Life-to-date: 3,301,373 copies3. Wii Play
Launch: 12/2/06
Life-to-date: 2,672,811 copies4. Mario Kart Wii
Launch: 4/10/08
Life-to-date: 2,218,756 copies5. Super Smash Bros. Brawl
Launch: 1/31/08
Life-to-date: 1,789,924 copies
Looks like the Wii “(insert monosyllabic word here)” branding is reeling in the dough. To add, even the lowest selling game is nearing the two million mark on that list, granted it is Super Smash Bros. Brawl. This bench mark probably eased their minds before their stock fell 6.6% on Monday.
