It seems a little odd to be looking ahead to August’s PS4 game releases when you’re probably already knee-deep in The Last of Us: Remastered. But the gaming train never stops, especially for PlayStation 4 which sees a surprising number of releases for August.
Released for PC in 2013, The Swapper won numerous awards in the indie gaming scene for its story, graphics and puzzle design. And now, PlayStation 4 fans will be able to experience this acclaimed puzzle-platformer. The Swapper is set on Theseus, a damaged space station and research facility. Your job is to search for a way off, using clones of yourself to help solve a variety of puzzles. The Swapper is one of the games part of of Sony’s PlayStation Store PLAY summer discount program.
Road Not Taken is actually one of August’s free PS4 games for PlayStation Plus. So if you are a PS Plus member, you’re getting this game for free on Tuesday. It’s a puzzle roguelike which sees you wandering through a mysterious forest in the aftermath of a large snowstorm. According to game developer Spry Fox, it’s a game about “life’s surprises, both positive and negative.”
I honestly have no clue what this game is actually about, but for some odd reason I’m excited for it. Maybe I’m a sucker for stylized, artsy games. It is also part of the PlayStation Store PLAY summer discount program.
Released first on Xbox One, EA is finally bringing its adorable third-person shooter to PS4. EA has taken the idea of its addictive wave-based defense game and transformed it into a shooter, complete with a four player wave-based co-op mode and 24-player competitive multiplayer. And what’s more, you’ll be able to experience the Garden Variety and Zomboss Down expansion content from day one.
Diablo III: Ultimate Evil Edition is a next-gen re-release of Blizzard’s acclaimed action-RPG. By now, you probably know what the game is all about — loot. To that end, Ultimate Evil Edition offers next-gen gamers a great jumping off point as it also includes the Reaper of Souls expansion.
From the small indie studio Dynamighty comes CounterSpy, an action side-scrolling game in which you infiltrate, sabotage and strike at the heart of two opposing Super Powers going head to head during the Cold War. Your goal is to prevent them from trying to destroy the moon with nuclear missiles. It is also part of the PlayStation Store PLAY summer discount program.
Technically, this is DLC for inFamous: Second Son. But it’s also being released standalone which means you can play it even if you haven’t played the base game. Of course, I do recommend playing Second Son as the DLC is centered around Fetch, one of the characters you meet in the original game.
Described as the “definitive version,” Metro Redux is a next-gen bundle of fully-remastered and improved versions of Metro 2033 and Metro: Last Light. It contains never-before-seen content and new gameplay features, including two different gameplay modes that cater to your specific playstyle.
If you like football this is a no brainer. I know the Madden franchise gets flack every year, but Madden NFL 15 sees some tremendous improvements, particularly on the defensive side of the ball.
We don’t know when exactly, but Mojang has said Minecraft will be released for PS4 sometime this month. I don’t think I need to explain this game.
