Saints Row ‘Hell Week’: Checking out the deadly arsenal of Gat out of Hell

The Saints Row series has never had a shortage of unique ideas for weapons. From “The Penetrator” (the infamous dildo bat) in Saints Row: The Third to the Dubstep Gun in Saints Row IV, Volition seemingly strives to outdo themselves with each new installment in the franchise. Some weapons exist for causing pure mayhem, while others exist just to make you laugh. In Saints Row: Gat out of Hell, the recently released expansion for Saints Row IV, we get a little bit of both.

Playing off the whole Hell theme of the game, Gat out of Hell introduces a series of themed, legendary weapons that embody the Seven Deadly Sins: Lust, Gluttony, Greed, Sloth, Wrath, Envy, and Pride. It’s not coincidental either that there’s one of these special weapons for each category in your inventory weapon wheel: Melee, Pistol, SMG, Shotgun, Rifle, Explosive, and Special. Before you can use one of these weapons though, you must first unlock it by completing a unique objective specific to the Sin that they embody.

Continuing GameZone’s Hell Week in celebration of Gat out of Hell, here’s a look at all Seven Deadly Weapons and how to unlock them.

Armchair-A-Geddon – (Embodiment of Sloth in the rifle slot)

Take a seat, get comfy, and watch the mayhem unfold as the Armchair-A-Geddon is equipped with dual-miniguns and heat-seeking missiles. The Armchair-A-Geddon is probably the most unique of the weapons in Gat out of Hell, but I’m not too fond of becoming a sitting duck.

How to unlock: The Armchair-A-Geddon is technically one of the easier weapons to unlock in the game. It’s as simple as completing the “Take A Break” mission which requires you simply locate the chair in a certain area of the map. The hard part is actually finding it, so I recommend purchasing the “Collectible Finder” ability first.

Gallows Dodger – (Embodiment of Pride in the pistol slot)

The Gallows Dodger is a unique weapon that fires arcane balls of energy at a pretty slow rate at first. However, the more you fire, the more an energy bar fills. Once that bar is completely filled the gun will go into rapid fire which is when it truly becomes deadly.

How to unlock: To unlock the Gallows Dodger you need to complete the Dex side event. As you explore Hell, Dex — from the older Saints Row games — will randomly appear (he’ll have a red target above him). Kill him 7 times and you’ll unlock this weapon.

Last Supper – (The embodiment of Gluttony in the special weapons slot)

The Last Supper glazes your enemies with hell-ish frosting. It actually reminds me of the Psychomagnotheric Slime from Ghostbusters 2.

How to unlock: The Last Supper is easiest to unlock when you’ve obtained the Collectible Finder ability. Once you have that, visit all of the Drivethru locations in Hell.

Uriels Edge – (Embodiment of Envy in the melee slot)

Uriels Edge is a massive sword that can not only be swung as a melee weapon, but can also shoot fiery balls to disintegrate your enemies from a distance.

How to unlock: To unlock Uriels Edge, convert all five Marshalling Grounds in order to access the Secret Chamber where the sword is kept.

Ark of the Covenant – (Embodiment of Wrath in the explosive slot)

Ark of the Covenant is like a giant vacuum, capable of sucking in the souls from your enemies and then launching them at the rest. It’s not the flashiest weapon in the game, but it sure is effective.

How to unlock: To unlock Ark of the Covenant you must kill 10 Archdukes.

Boom Chicka – (Embodiment of Lust in the shotgun slot)

Embodying “lust” Boom Chicka is the sexiest gun in Gat out of Hell. When fired this weapon essentially shoots love dust that will not only deal damage to enemies but also render them completely incapable as they walk towards you with hearts in their eyes.

How to unlock: To unlock the Boom Chicka you have to open all of the chests that Blackbeard tells you about. This includes the hidden one which requires Glyphs, which are unlocked after completing the events with Blackbeard. There are three glyphs in each sector of the map. When you find all three, you can open the hidden chest. I recommend using the Collectible Finder ability before attempting to unlock this weapon.

Diamond Sting – (Embodiment of Greed in the SMG slot)

Cha-ching! Like the name suggests, Diamond Sting is all about that bling. Aside from the gaudy design, killing enemies with this weapon will generate bonus money for you, which is perfect considering what you’ll need to do to unlock it.

How to unlock: Diamond Sting is definitely the easiest of the 7 Deadly Weapons to acquire, as it only requires you buy it from the weapon depot for $100,000. Don’t worry about the price tag either because this weapon’s special ability generates bonus money for you upon killing enemies. Odds are, you’ll earn that cash back in no time.
