Steam Monster Summer Game review

The Steam Monster Summer Sale started today, and with it came some expected things: store pages not loading, problems navigating, and a brand-new meta-game that accomplishes nothing except pissing people off. We expect these things, and Steam delivers. This year's annoying new feature to the Steam Summer Sale is 'Monster Summer Game' — a clicker game where people work together to take down monsters and unlock new sales.

Valve, bro, we don't care about these little mini-games that never work as intended… we just want the deals.

Now I love tap games on my phone, like Tap Titans, but the Monster Summer Game cannot be played on phones, and it's quite annoying to keep clicking for hours on end on your computer. It might be less annoying… if the game worked.

IF you can get into a game, there's nothing but issues. Sometimes I do zero damage with my clicks. Sometimes no monsters show up for me to click on. All of the gold I spent on upgrading was wasted, because when I logged back in my upgrades were gone. The gold too was gone often. I still have my level, but nothing else. And all of this is to unlock special discounts that in year's past were just there. Valve needs to live by the phrase "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."

If this was an actual game review, I'd have a hard time assigning a score above 0.5/10. It's fundamentally broken. It doesn't work, gets stuck at 97/97 loading, and has repetitive music/gameplay when you actually get in. Your progress doesn't save, and the Monster Game makes you wonder why it even exists. Also, you're playing with other players on a team and divided up into lanes, but since everything isn't working, it doesn't show the other players and so a monster with 300k health doesn't take any damage… BECAUSE THE PLAYERS AREN'T THERE!

I realize this is the first couple of hours since the Steam Summer Sale has launched, but we are never forgiving of other games with these issues. It's hard to believe the people that made Half-Life are responsible for this… thing.
