Happy New Year, GameZone readers! Looking ahead, 2013 promises us tons of great games, but for now, let's stick to what we'll get in January. Although this is a relatively slow time for game releases, January 2013 will see a couple high-profile games launch, including DmC Devil May Cry, Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch, and Anarchy Reigns. Let's take a closer look at what each one offers.
First up is Retro City Rampage, which is technically available today as a downloadable game for Xbox LIVE Arcade. This action-adventure game is a parody of retro games and pop culture, as well as the popular Grand Theft Auto series. In the game, you take control of a henchman of a major crime syndicate known as the Jester. There are around 50 over-the-top missions and 30 challenge levels filled with lots of weapons, vehicles, and violence.
Anarchy Reigns is a beat 'em up action game developed by Platinum Games. Although it's been available in Japan for several months now, it's North American release has been delayed numerous times. The game offers "over-the-top close combat, set in a massively open and fantastical world in a bleak, mutant filled future."
DmC Devil May Cry is Capcom's latest installment of the iconic Devil May Cry franchise. Developed by Ninja Theory, this hack and slash game is set in an alternate reality, or parallel universe, in the Devil May Cry series. This was Capcom's way to sort of reboot the series. The game still focuses on Dante, but this time he is much younger and has an all-new look (which has angered many fans of the original Dante). The game begins with Dante waking up from a wicked hangover only to discover he is under attack by demons in the mysterious town known as Limbo City.
Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2 is a follow-up to City Interactive's hit action game Sniper: Ghost Warrior. In the game, you take control of Private Security Consultant Cole Anderson in a series of various missions scattered around the world. This first-person shooter employs stealth tactics, hand-to-hand combat, and intense sniping sequences featuring realistic bullet physics that factors distance, wind, and bullet drop. There's also a multiplayer mode where you can engage in sniping duels with other players.
Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Which is another game that has been available in Japan for quite a while now. The story follows revolves around a thirteen-year-old boy, Oliver, whose mother, Arie, suddenly dies after rescuing him from drowning. Oliver sets off on a journey to rescue his dead mother from the world of "Ni no Kuni," a parallel reality. Guided by a doll (fairy) named Drippy brought to life from Oliver's tears, Oliver wields a book that allows him to use the power of magic in this alternate reality.
Hitman HD Trilogy is a collection of high-def versions of Hitman 2: Silent Assassin, Hitman: Contracts, and Hitman: Blood Money. It lets you relive more than 40 intense missions spread across the three classic Hitman games, all presented in glorious HD. It will be available for Xbox 360 and PS3 for $39.99.
