It appears that there is little room for doubt that Wuhu Island is the place to be this Summer for Nintendo’s Wii Sports Resort. After all, over one million vacationers in the U.S. alone can’t all be wrong.
Indeed, since its U.S. release on July 26th, the MotionPlus-bundled game has moved over one million units, the company revealed in a press release today. In addition, the title has performed with similar numbers in both Japan and Europe.
“Millions of consumers worldwide have demonstrated that they want their summer vacations to keep going,” said Cammie Dunaway, Nintendo of America’s executive vice president of Sales & Marketing, in the press release. “Wii Sports Resort provides both novice and veteran players a fun, virtual escape to a resort island with their friends and family – something that will be even more appealing as the weather turns cooler this fall and winter.”
The press release also makes note of Wii Sports Resort’s position as another “long-tail” title for Nintendo, one which “sells steadily over an extended period of time as opposed to a single flash on its launch day.”
As for the MotionPlus peripheral itself, which was released over a month earlier with Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10 from Electronic Arts and individually, Nintendo’s internal sales figures show that it has sold over two million units.
