E3 2006 First Look Preview
Anyone who has played one
of Adventure Company’s games is probably familiar with Aura, which was released
a while back and was one of their popular titles. Sacred Rings is a new game
that is scheduled for release in September, and picks up where Aura left off.
The main character has been trapped in Aura, a dark and somewhat twisted “witch
world” as it was called, and you have to try and protect the sacred rings from
being captured by a band of baddies known as the Buzzards.
Sacred Rings has a very
Myst style feel to it, with the camera view being out of the main character’s
eyes most of the time. The majority of the game revolves around point and click
puzzles, like one that was shown where a machine like puzzle of opening windows
was utilized to obtain an item, place it into a mechanical like opening, which
then operated a telescope where the main character could look out and see where
the Buzzards were. Fortunately, there will also be a hint system added in and
utilized to help you out if you happen to get stuck.
In the finished title,
there will be over 400 locations to explore, and the game will also include over
40 minutes of cut scenes … some of which will be pretty creepy (one in
particular showed a ghost coming out of nowhere and screaming which made me
jump). So, if puzzle games with a touch of darkness added in is right up your
alley, be looking for Sacred Rings around September.
